THE START OF THE WEDDING JOURNEY

Oct 26, 2016

I’ve always said that being able to look back at things I’ve shared in the past is probably one of my favourite things about blogging. It really is pretty great to have somewhere to go to be reminded of all the big and small memories. It’s like looking back at old pictures, but even better since you have all the details and emotions to go along with them.
Well, you can imagine how excited I was when I was thinking of things I wanted to blog about after I came back from my little blogging hiatus, when it dawned on me that I have one of the biggest moments in my life coming up; our wedding. All of the details leading up to the big day is something I want to be able to remember forever and ever and ever, and hopefully I’ll be able to by sharing them right here. I say hopefully because we all know my track record with this blog obviously hasn’t been the greatest.  But I think we can all agree that I’d be a complete idiot if I didn’t keep this up and document everything along the way.

So with all that being said, I plan on starting from the very beginning of this crazy wedding journey. It’s taken Todd and I a very long time to get here, but we’re here now. Well, in 7 months and 20-odd days, but who’s counting!  We were dating for 9 years, then engaged for 3, and now we’ve officially been planning our wedding for the last 8 months. I told you I wasn’t kidding when I said it’s taken us a long time to get here. I sure do hope the saying “slow and steady wins the race” is true.

But I feel like we’ve always been the type of people to go at our own pace, and I guess our pace is a lot slower than most people would expect. It’s funny though because after we got engaged I kind of felt like I was missing that bride gene. You know the one that causes people to plan their imaginary wedding while they’re longing for their imaginary proposal? That one. I didn’t have it. And I still didn’t have it even when that proposal came. Although I was obviously happy, I just didn’t dive right in to any of that wedding planning stuff. Call it a missing bride gene, or call it laziness, a few years passed and we were still hearing the exact same question from everyone, “still no date set?”.

But then came the end of last January. Something happened where we both knew we didn’t want to wait any longer. And so a date was set within that week.

The date has been set, all the vendors have been booked, our bridal party has been asked, the save the dates have been sent and the wedding dress has been bought. It’s really happening!  The bride gene is missing no longer and has, in fact, been in full force ever since we set the date. I want these next 7+ months to go by really fast, but I have to try and remind myself to soak it all in because I’ve been having so much fun with the planning part so far (feel free to ask me again in a few months to see if my answer is any different) and I know it’ll be over all too soon.

I’ve spent countless hours on Pinterest, knowing full well that the little details I’ve been looking at will either a) never happen or b) will never be noticed even if they do happen. It’s just been fun searching and brainstorming the million and one wedding ideas that’s out there, because when else in your life do you get to plan something like this? Once. Dear lord we hope it’s only once!

I can’t wait to share some of the things we’ve done/planned so far, so stay tuned for more wedding talk. Since I feel like that’s really all I’ve been thinking about lately, you can be sure there will be lots more of it.  My bride gene is apparently making up for lost times!!

Until next time.
