Over the last thirteen years, my mom would always say that she had three children; me and my sister and her four-legged baby, her cat, Abby. For those of you who have pets of your own, I’m pretty sure you know exactly what she’s talking about. Your animals become such a huge and important part of your life that you honestly can’t imagine the day when they’re no longer part of it anymore. Well, we all have a heavy heart today on this Mothers Day because, as of yesterday morning, my mom no longer has that third child of hers.

So, instead of coming here today and telling my mom how much she means to me and how much I love her, I wanted to tell her some things that Abby would tell her, if she could only tell them to her herself.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you that the best part of her day was sleeping on your head every single night.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you that she appreciated the daily amount of yogurt she was given, and how happy she was when you would switch to a new flavour after she would get sick of the other kind.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you how patient you were when you couldn’t go to the kitchen without her following you, just waiting to get lots and lots of treats.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you that she loved learning the game of fetch with twist ties at a very early age.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you thanks for never getting mad at her when she would throw up fur balls on the rug or scratch the arms of the couch so bad that you had to hide them with towels.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you, that although she thought she was pretty sneaky, she always knew that you would find out about her jumping on the table whenever you left the house.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you how much she loved winning hide and go seek every time she knew she had to leave the house in her carrier.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you, that although she hated the car rides, she was so happy that you would take her whenever you would spend time in town with us. That reminds me, I’m pretty sure she would probably say sorry for meowing louder than the radio during those car rides.

I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you how much unconditional love you gave her over these last thirteen years.

And I’m sure, Mom, she would tell you that she had the best life, and it was all because of you….her mom.

Happy Mothers Day, Mom…from the three of us!!
