Just when I thought I was done with our honeymoon, I’m back with one last post. After I shared our final week in Italy, I quickly realized Mamma Agata and her cooking class in Ravello deserved an entire post on it’s own since this was the highlight of our three-week trip. In fact, it was so good, it was one of the best things we’ve ever done on any of our vacations.

With one quick google search, you’ll quickly see thousands of reviews confirming just how loved this class is. It’s actually so well known and loved, Mamma Agata’s has hosted many celebrities over the years like Jackie O, Pierce Brosnan and Mark Ruffalo, just to name a few.

We took part in this class on our third day in Positano. Since the class started early, we didn’t want to take any chances on arriving late so the staff at our hotel arranged a car service to take us to Mamma Agata’s in Ravello early that morning. We ended up being the first ones to arrive and we were so warmly greeted by Chiara, the daughter of Mamma Agata. We were quickly welcomed into their home with a big hug and an invitation for coffee and their famous lemon cake.

“If Mamma Agata is the soul of the family, Chiara is the heart”

This time at the beginning with Chiara was so nice. Words cannot describe the feeling you get when you spend time with her. She’s informative, entertaining, and super charismatic and captivating. You’ll be sure to fall in love with her as much we did.

But, don’t worry if you’re not the first to arrive, you’ll have plenty of time to talk and get to know Chiara throughout the day. She makes every guest feel completely at home, and she takes the time to get to know every single person.

There were twelve of us in total who did the cooking class that day (I think twelve is the maximum), and we were from all different parts of the world – Canada, United States, England, and New Zealand. At around 10:30 that morning, we were all guided into the kitchen by Chiara where we met Mamma Agata and began the cooking!

The class is mostly in demonstration with Mamma Agata, Chiara, and her husband Gennaro cooking and teaching the techniques and art of selecting the right food and preparing it perfectly.

Another reason why you’ll fall in love with this cooking class (and, just think about it, we haven’t even gotten to the food part yet!!) is the location of Mamma Agata’s home. Mamma Agata’s is situated on a clifftop, overlooking the gorgeous coastline of Ravello. There’s no need to spend a day looking for gorgeous views on the Amalfi Coast when you can find it right here!

The day was divided between cooking demonstrations and breaks, with lots of snacking and wine drinking in between! During break time we were able to (try and) walk off all the delicious food by exploring the grounds of their home (lemon trees everywhere!), and it was absolutely beautiful. At the end of the day we all sat down together to enjoy one of the most delicious meals we had on our honeymoon.

We made eggplant appetizers, eggplant parmesan, meatballs, two different types of pastas, and lemon chicken. And let’s not forget about the lemon cake and limoncello. I had no idea what limoncello was up until this point but, let me just say, I’ll never forget it after I shot it in two seconds. I had no idea it was going to be liquor!!!

If you’re looking for an amazing Italian experience on your trip to Italy, head straight to the beautiful mountaintop town of Ravello where you’ll find Mamma Agata’s cooking class. You’ll have a full day of delicious food, beautiful scenery and some lovely company. Just make sure you arrive hungry because, trust me when I say, the food never ends!!! We arrived back at our hotel that day a little after 5pm and the man on the front desk asked us what we had been doing all day. When we told him we were at Mamma Agata’s cooking class, his funny response was “I guess we’ll see you both tomorrow, Good Night!”. Soooo much food and wine!

Until next time.
